Course Description

This certificate course will enable healthcare professionals to learn about Carbohydrate Counting: how it works, how to adjust insulin doses in relation to carbs with practical and easy to understand tips.

The course will provide basic to advanced knowledge through online modules and assessments which healthcare professionals can apply in the care of people with diabetes.

Carbohydrate counting as a way of matching insulin requirements with the amount of carbohydrate that one eats or drinks.

The course builds upon prior knowledge of participants regarding diabetes management. The student will be able to demonstrate competency in the following areas after attending the Carbohydrate Counting training course.

  1. What is Carbohydrate counting
  2. Calculating the insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio
  3. Calculating insulin for high blood glucose correction
  4. Blood glucose pattern interpretation
  5. Problem-solving skills
