The Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetology is a two year Postgraduate Course in the field of diabetes. This Diploma have been established to equip healthcare professionals who have an interest in diabetes with a sound knowledge of the subject.

AIM OF DIPLOMA COURSE

To train physicians as part of capacity building for diabetes in primary care setup.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

Objectives:

To familiarize primary care physicians with a generalized approach to diabetes and its management.
To recognize and manage acute and chronic complications of diabetes with clear understanding of limitations of primary care.
To follow the national guidelines and referral policy.
To enhance the understanding of needs of community and to contribute in preventive strategies.

Course overview

The Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetology is a TWO year Postgraduate Course in the field of diabetes. The course consists of four semesters, as follows:

Semester I & II

Each semester will be of five months duration, comprises of two Theory Sessions and two practical training sessions, each one of three credit hours. So, the total credit hours in each semester will be twelve. Each semester will be followed by a period for preparation & examination. The terminal exam comprises of theory examination, viva & OSCE.

The daily schedule will be from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm five days a week.

There will be 5 lectures & 5 workshops per week.

Semester III

It entails one theory and one practical course, each of one credit hour. After one month of didactic session the process of assignments and approval of research project will be completed. The relevant field work will start during this semester. The Terminal exam comprises of viva & OSCE.

Semester IV

Research work on thesis will be completed and assessment will be done through VIVA.

Salient Features

In first two sessions the students are expected to submit 10 case histories on completion of prescribed number of modules. The feedback from the consultant will be provided during an interactive session.
Theory paper 1 of first two semesters comprises of 100 MCQs of single best answer with four options.
Theory paper 2 of first two semesters comprise of 5 SEQs. All are mandatory to attempt.
There will be no supplementary examination during the course.
A student who has passed 80% of the courses in one semester is eligible to be promoted to the next semester.
The student who has failed to pass 80% courses will be reverting back i.e. repeat the same semester.
In the last semester if the student has passed 80% of the courses he/she will be considered for “Outgoing Exam” to complete the Diploma.

Qualifications & eligibility for admission

A- Eligibility Criteria

The course is open to all medical practitioners (MBBS) registered with PMDC.
Each candidate must have completed one-year House job.
Valid PMDC registration is mandatory.

B- Entry Test

Will be conducted as per rules and regulation of Baqai Medical University.
Fee for Entry Test is Rs. 2000/-
Each candidate must pass entry test with 70% marks.

Final selection

On the basis of performance in the entry test and final interview the Candidates are selected. The course has been approved by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council

Course Fees

The fee for the course, commencing in year 2019, will be Rs. 140,000/ per semester (excluding withholding tax). The candidate must pay the full fee before the inception of each semester on prescribed date

What are the Rules for attendance?

1- An attendance of 80 percent is compulsory in each semester for a student to be eligible to appear in terminal Examination.
2- Shortage in attendance up to 05 percent only may be condoned by the Director of Institute for acceptable reasons. The Vice Chancellor may condone a further shortage of 10 percent in case of special hardship, but no student whose attendance falls below 60 percent shall appear in the Examination of the Diploma Course.
3- If a student is unable to complete the attendance requirement in any course, he/she shall be required to complete the attendance afresh whenever the course is offered again. He / She will become eligible for appearing in the examination only after he/she has completed its attendance requirement.

How will students be registered in diploma course?

Provisional registration will be done on receiving dully filled admission form and final registration at Baqai Medical University will after confirmation of admission on the basis of result of entry test and submission of prescribed fee.

How students will be enrolled in University?

Within a month after start of diploma application for enrolment is processed on prescribed form against enrolment fee.

How will students be evaluated at final exam?

Final exam consists of two parts:
1. Theory
2. Practical

Will Textbooks be required for my course?

The students are encouraged to acquire knowledge from all reference books.

Who teaches the course?

Course is led by renowned practicing physicians who have vast experience of teaching and practicing in their respective fields.

Can I start my course at any time or are there specific dates for the session?

Only on prescribed dates, mentioned by Baqai Medical University.

Do you offer scholarships/ financial assistance?

What will happen if I am unable to complete the course I have registered for? Will I get a refund? How long will the enrollment remain valid?

Fee is not refundable. The enrolment of the course is for three years.

When would my payment be submitted at last?

The admission is offered through letter of acceptance. Last date of submission of fee will be mentioned in the letter. All the students must submit their fee prior to inception of diploma course. Fee is accepted only in the form of pay order / bank draft in favor of “Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology”.
